Oregon Women in Timber (OWIT) is a state-wide, non-profit organization dedicated to creating awareness of the importance of forests, trees and wood products in our daily lives. We work to inform our membership, the public, and policymakers of the importance of sustainable forests to our environment, our economy, and our families.
Over the past 18 months OWIT has seen new growth and an increase in membership. We now have chapters in Union, Lane, and Douglas counties. There is a Clatsop county chapter currently in the developing stage, along with a strong interest in Lincoln county. We are excited to be able to support these new chapters and work to develop chapters in other areas.
All it takes to start a chapter is three members and the willingness to have at least two meetings per year.
OWIT activities vary from chapter to chapter and usually include different events within their local communities, including fun “Forest Products Month” activities for October. Our commitment to education will continue to be our focus, including fundraising for our award-winning Talk About Trees program. We will continue to share our stories and passion for the timber industry.
